Here's what you missed!

A five-day program (June 13-17, 2010) as a partnership with Sankusem of Ghana (African Festival of Music, Dance and Scholarship) offering opportunity for intense study for composers, choreographers, dancers, musicians, ethnomusicologists with international faculty. This festival will be featuring Ghana's leading composer Nketia, Princeton ethnomusicologist Kofi Agawu, composer and choreographer Obo Addy, dancers, pianist George François and the well-known concert violinist Rachel Barton Pine. Program participants will be attending workshops, talks and performances focused on African folk music, African contemporary music, dance and scholarship.

About Sankusem:

Sankusem is dedicated to promoting the contemporary use of African music and dance globally by presenting multi-disciplinary festivals throughout the world. They currently are involved in organizing festivals in the United States in June of 2010, and in Ghana in August of 2010. These 5-day festivals are designed to create a context for dynamic and exploratory interactions between ethnomusicologists, musicologists, musical performers, composers, dancers, choreographers and local audiences. The festival will culminate with a performance Thursday June 17th, 7:30 PM in Icicle Creek Music Center's stunning Canyon Wren Recital Hall. Advance tickets for this performance are now closed - however tickets are available at the door.
